Joff

Hi, my name is Joff Duck and up until the end of March 2009 I worked for a local authority in Cambridgeshire, persuading people to make the right choices about protecting historic buildings and conservation areas - which proved substantially more difficult than it might at first appear….

My reasons for wanting to go on this trip are numerous:- they centre on wanting to see more of the world before I get too old, but also include wanting to meet people from different cultures, explore and try to understand a little of the historic civilisations of the world as well, of course, as wanting to bunk off from work for 18 months.

Even cycling up this hill made the world seem like a REALLY big place....

Even cycling up this hill made me appreciate that the world is a REALLY big place...

I often hear people say that the world is either a) a small place, or b) getting smaller. I like to think that cycling between 18,000 and 20,000 miles through 15 countries will prove, to me at least, that it is not.

I would like to say I enjoy sport and the arts but have had precious little time to do either in the last few years as I have been renovating our cottage and building a third bedroom.

I do still find time however for reading and being supremely lazy :)
